Her strong religious convictions were at odds with the established Puritan clergy in the Boston area, and her popularity and charisma helped create a theological schism that threatened to destroy the Puritans' religious experiment in New England. Tests will cover lectures and required readings. They will consist of essays and answers of less than one page. There will be no make-up examinations. The grades on these two book reviews will be counted as quiz grades. Should a student fail to turn in these book reviews before the due date three weeks after the date of EACH missed exama grade of zero shall replace the TWO highest quiz scores.
A student who misses the final exam without contacting the instructor within 24 hours will earn a grade of zero for that test. The final 20 percent of the semester grade will be based on the top five scores from a mix of other assignments: For this assignment, please consult the instructions.

An absentee student is responsible for securing notes from fellow students for the missed class. Further, the instructor assumes that the student will be responsible for any information presented to the class. The instructor will take roll and note absences in his record.
Students who are late to class, fall asleep, or leave early will be marked absent. No penalty will be assessed for students who miss no more than three 3 classes. Starting with the fourth absence, the instructor will deduct from the student's final exam score one 1 point for every missed class.
The instructor expects students to participate in class discussion of required readings. Each time a student receives an "excellent" rating in a class discussion, the instructor will add one point to that student's final exam score.
If the class discussion fails to develop in a satisfactory manner, students will be asked to answer specific questions.
Should a student be unable to answer questions based upon the readings, the instructor will note this occurrence in his record. The first occurrence will not have a negative impact on the student's grade.
